The Langenbeck's Archives of Surgery (or in German, Langenbeck's Archiv für Chirurgie), established in 1872 as Archiv für Klinische Chirurgie by founding editor Bernhard von Langenbeck, is the oldest medical journal of surgery in the world. It is the official journals of several European societies of medicine, namely the German Society of Surgery, German Society of General and Visceral Surgery, German Association of Endocrine Surgeons, German, Austrian and Swiss Surgical Associations for Minimal Invasive Surgery, and the European Society of Endocrine Surgeons. The journal is currently published by Springer, and is edited by Markus W. Büchler. It's 2009 impact factor was 1.572.
The journal was original published in German, but since 1998 is exclusively in English, and took its current English title.
